The North Downs Line runs from Reading to Redhill along the North Downs, a ridge of hills through Southern England. This simulation covers the eastern section, from Guildford to Redhill.

This line has limited signalling along most its length, meaning trains can catch up with each other quickly. Additionally, there are two level crossings, and it must be ensured that these aren’t closed for too long.

North Downs Line East Services
Train Operating Company Origin Destination Frequency (tph)
Great Western Railway Reading Gatwick Airport 1
Redhill 1
Southern Reigate London Victoria 2

Additional peak services from Reading also terminate at Shalford.

Operational Tips

  • Keep an eye on departure tumes from Reigate towards Redhill - some trains have extended dwells to ensure they don't leave at the same time.
  • Be careful not to set routes across level crossings too early, as trains can take longer than expected to travel some sections. The Actions Due panel can be helpful to determine how long until a crossing should be closed.
